Our Engagement Model and The Charter

Canterbury Communities’ Earthquake Recovery Network or ‘CanCERN’ recognises that each community is different and has it’s own particular needs, concerns, priorities and ways of organising.  One size does not fit all.

However experience has demonstrated that community organisations that organise into street groups with street coordinators can develop and sustain very effective, highly representative support and communication networks over long periods of time.  This organisational structure is a key component of the Community Engagement Network.

In June of 2011 CanCERN was instrumental in generating a charter of engagement principles. This was agreed on by a broad alliance of founding groups representing residents, youth, trade unions, business, community board chairs, ethnic leaders, community sector services, faith-based services, sustainability and heritage organisations, and academics.
